Domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
An EPC carries ratings that compare the energy efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions with potential figures that a property could achieve. These figures are calculated by estimating what the energy efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions would be if energy saving measures were to be put in place.
When reading an EPC, the rating measures the energy and carbon emission efficiency of your home, using a grade from 'A' down to 'G'. An 'A' rating is the most efficient, while 'G' is the least efficient. All properties are measured using the same calculations, so you can compare the energy efficiency of different properties.
An EPC has a recommendation report that shows what you could do to help reduce the amount of energy the
property uses and your carbon dioxide emissions. The EPC report lists suggested improvements, such as insulation, double glazing etc and then gives the possible cost savings that could be made per year. The EPC will also shows how the recommendations would change the energy and carbon emission rating of the property.
